Grieving the Loss of Your Pre-Illness Identity: Coping with a Vestibular Diagnosis

Writer: CatherinemarydesignsCatherinemarydesigns

It's ok to grieve the person you were before you got a vestibular illness.

Like many, one day your were fine. Living life, chasing dreams, setting goals, going out, socialising and then the next day you weren't fine.

You had no idea what was going on, you were scared.

You thought "well this shouldn't last long, i'll be back to normal soon. But that 'normal' never came back. This is the reality for many diagnosed with a vestibular illness.

You find yourself in unchartered territory and it turns into a long and extremely challenging journey. It's ok to grieve the person you were before you got sick.

Heck! You had probably never even heard of let alone google the word 'vestibular'.

Grieving who we once were is part of the healing process. Allow it. Who's to say you won't come out the other side a stronger, resilient and more compassionate person?

I did.

So can you.
